Bangkok is a very attractive city in Thailand. Royal palaces and temples, as well as several museums, constitute its major historical and cultural tourist attractions. Shopping and dining experiences offer a wide range of choices and prices. The city is also famous for its dynamic nightlife.

Grand Palace is the most famous complex of buildings at the heart of the city. The palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam since 1782. The king, his court and his royal government were based on the grounds of the palace until 1925. The Grand Palace is still used for official events. Several royal ceremonies and state functions are held within the walls of the palace every year.

Wat Phra Kaew is the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. The Emerald Buddha housed in the temple is a potent religiously-political symbol and the palladium of Thai society. It is located in Phra Nakhon District, the historic centre of Bangkok, within the precincts of the Grand Palace.

The main building is the central Phra ubosot, which houses the statue of the Emerald Buddha. According to legend, this Buddha image originated in India where the sage Nagasena prophesized that the Emerald Buddha would bring “prosperity and pre-eminence to each country in which it resides”, the Emerald Buddha deified in the Wat Phra Kaew is therefore deeply revered and venerated in Thailand as the protector of the country.

Wat Pho is another Buddhist temple complex in the Phra Nakhon District. The temple is first on the list of six temples in Thailand classed as the highest grade of the first-class royal temples.

Erawan Shrine is a shrine that houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of the Hindu god of creation Lord Brahma. A popular worship attraction, it often features performances by resident Thai dance troupes, who are hired by worshippers in return for seeing their prayers at the shrine answered.

Vimanmek Mansion in Dusit Palace is famous as the world’s largest teak building, while the Jim Thompson House provides an example of traditional Thai architecture. Other major museums include the Bangkok National Museum and the Royal Barge National Museum. Cruises and boat trips on the Chao Phraya and Thonburi’s canals offer views of some of the city’s traditional architecture and ways of life on the waterfront.

Bangkok experiences a tropical savanna climate. The World Meteorological Organization recognized the city as the hottest metropolis in the world. In general, the climate has three periods: cool (November – February), rainy (June – October) and hot (March-May). During March and April, the weather is very hot that is why the tourists do not leave their accommodations with an air conditioner. During the rainy season the showers are very strong, so do not forget an umbrella if you are going to visit Bangkok from June until October. Actually, the best time for visiting this colourful city is during November – February.
