There are many different beaches in Rio. They all are very picturesque.

Copacabana is the most famous beach here. This is a 4-kilometre long sandy coast, which became an embodiment of Brazil. Here a lot of festivals and concerts take place. There are also many cafes, restaurants and clubs on this beach. Those people, who prefer an active rest, can take part in football and volleyball matches.

Ipanema is the second popular beach in the city. It is safer, calmer and more elitist. There are also many different activities in Ipanema. However, this is a favourite beach for the families with children.

Leblon is an embodiment of the luxury and presentability.  Rich people come to rest there. Correspondingly, all the entertainments and restaurants are expensive here.

Entertainment and places of interest

There are many historical, cultural and natural landmarks in Rio de Janeiro.

 Christ the Redeemer is the most famous sight here. It is located at the peak of the 700-metre Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro. A symbol of Christianity across the world, the statue has also become a cultural icon of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil and is listed as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Sugarloaf Mountain is another interesting sight in Rio de Janeiro. It is known worldwide for its cableway and panoramic views of the city.

If you adore nature, you should necessarily visit the Botanical Garden or Tijuca Forest, which is claimed to be the world’s largest urban forest, covering some 32 square kilometres.

If you like history and art, you should visit National Museum of Brazil and Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro. Here you will be amazed by the large and interesting collection of Brazilian artists and sculptors.

Real Gabinete Portugués de Lectura is one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. It looks modestly outside, but just amazing inside.

Escadaria Selarón, also known as the “Selaron Steps” is another symbol of the city. Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón who claimed it as «my tribute to the Brazilian people» created this set of world-famous steps.

Sports fans should visit Maracanã Stadium. The stadium is mainly used for football matches between the major football clubs in Rio de Janeiro, including Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo and Vasco da Gama. It has also hosted a number of concerts and other sporting events.

Climate and weather

Rio de Janeiro experienced a tropical savanna climate that closely borders a tropical monsoon climate. There are no accurate seasons in Rio. However, the weather is hot during the period between December and March. The daily average temperature is +26 °C. Sometimes it rains. From June until September the weather becomes colder and more overcast. The temperature is circa +21 °C on average. The rainfall occurs more frequent.

The tourists usually visit Rio de Janeiro during the whole year. However, if you like beach rest, you should come in winter. During that time water is very warm here.
